6. Community theatre:
Community theatre means giving short performances in busy places where a large number of people commutes daily (e.g. squares, parks...). Such performances are given in order to transmit a certain message to a large number of people in a short time and in a picturesque way. This concept was introduced to us by Emma Rose Halpern, a Canadian volunteer at the Incest Trauma Center during 2005.
One part of the Incest Trauma Center's team has been giving a preformance titled "It can be different - break the silence!" since June 2005. In our performance we speak of sexual abuse of children and youth in educational institutions. The performance has some interactive parts (aimed to the audience), and its effects are mainly awareness-raising (considering sexual abuse) as well as educative (considering child's trauma).
Performances given so far:
- June 25, 2005, Republic Square
- May 24, 2006, Primary school "Đorđe Krstić"
- May 31, 2006, Primary school "Branko Pešić"
- June 6, 2006, Student's campus, Novi Beograd
-June 15, Students' home, Karaburma
- June 29, Women's Penitentiary, Požarevac
- July 04, Central Prison, Belgrade
In 2006, the performances are given with the help of Autonomous Women's Center's acitvist Saša Pokrajac and Labris' activist Ksenija Forca (members of actresses' team), as well as with the help of Biljana Stanković-Lori and Zoe Gudović (ACT women; help during preparations and rehearsals). Thank you all!
